Darius Miles allegedly killed Jamea Jonae Harris over rejection

Police have charged a University of Alabama basketball player Darius Miles21 and Michael Lynn Davis20 with capital murder after allegedly shooting and killing Jamesa Jonae Harrisa 23 year old mother of one.

The incident happened early Sunday while Harris was riding in a car near “The Strip,” an area near the university’s campus. According to the victim’s mother, DeCarla Cotton, the shooting resulted from Harris brushing off Miles, who allegedly “took a ride [her] Baby’s life because she didn’t want to talk to him.”

Cotton took to Facebook to express her devastation as she shared photos of both young men accused of killing their daughter, who was visiting her cousin at university when she was killed. The grieving grandmother changed her too Facebook profile picture to the photo of her late daughter and her 5-year-old grandson Kaine.

“She was a beautiful young woman who loved her family and especially her 5-year-old son, Kaine,” Cotton said in one Interview with AL.com.

“She was just trying to enjoy her weekend with her cousin, who is studying at the University of Alabama, and her boyfriend.”

Harris’ cousin Kennedi Henderson described Harris as “a humble soul, and she’s always been a happy soul” and someone who “keeps the cousins ​​together and pushes us to be the best.”

Suspects accused of shooting Harris after argument near the Strip: police

According to Tuscaloosa Police Department Jack Kennedy, the shooting appears to be the result of a minor argument between the victims and suspects after they met along the Strip. The driver of the car told police he returned fire in self-defense. He also believed he may have hit one of the suspects.

Miles’ arrest video went viral on social media after the alleged killer sobbed over why he was arrested by Alabama police on Jan. 15.

Cotton set up a GoFundMe account to raise money for Harris’ 5-year-old son, Kaine. In her post she wrote:

“She had a heart of gold and was loved by everyone. Can’t express how much she is missed! Thank you to everyone who has reached out with their prayers and condolences and I appreciate it in any way you choose to help.”
