Melissa McCarthy and her cousin Jenna Perusich star in HGTV’s newest series, The Great Giveback. The six-episode season premieres Monday, June 13, 2022 at 9 p.m. Eastern and Pacific time.

The duo will surprise six deserving families with home renovations. HGTV announced in a press release that the actresses “will experience the heartwarming stories of extraordinary people who have been nominated by their loved ones. Fueled by the inspiring accounts, the self-proclaimed design and vintage fanatics, along with their team of experts, then sledgehammer, select personalized finishes, and demo and reno to stun recipients with dazzling, life-changing revelations.”

“‘The Great Giveback’ shines a light on people doing amazing things,” McCarthy said in a press release. “Even when circumstances are difficult, they say, ‘What can I do and how can I help’ to improve the lives of others. If those who give and give and give don’t deserve a great return, I don’t know who does. Kindness matters and is contagious, and Jenna and I are so lucky and grateful to have met such special people.”

The series was first Announced November 2021.

McCarthy & Perusich give back to a combat veteran in the premiere

The series begins with a makeover for combat veteran Katie, who HGTV revealed has overcome homelessness.

“Nominated by her fiancé, Lily, and pregnant with their first child, Melissa and Jenna give Katie a thoughtfully designed, completely revamped kitchen, living area, and unexpected nursery,” reads the episode description.

The other recipients of the renovation are Dawanna, “a 15-year-old law enforcement officer who serves youth, the elderly and those in need through various community programs”; Kate, “a pediatric nurse in the intensive care unit”; Lucia, “a mother of eight and a 30-year-old dance teacher whose students include children with special needs and the elderly”; Mynor, “the director of a nonprofit organization that serves inner-city youth and families”; and Ryan, “an aspiring musician who shares the joy of music as a volunteer at a seniors’ facility.”

“Melissa and I spotlight extraordinary people who give back and do good every day,” Perusich, who is also an actress, said in the press release. “We transform their lives by making their homes better and more functional while sharing what they do for others. Kindness breeds kindness and that was our biggest takeaway from the show.”

McCarthy & Peruvian performed on Celebrity IOU

This is the second time McCarthy and Perusich have collaborated for HGTV. They previously appeared in a 2020 episode of Celebrity IOU, where Perusich’s parents’ home was being renovated.

“After seeing how well Melissa worked with her cousin Jenna on an early episode of ‘Celebrity IOU,’ we had to bring her back for her own makeover series,” said HGTV President Jane Latman it says in a press release. “‘The Great Giveback with Melissa McCarthy and Jenna Perusich’ will be full of surprises, amazing house transformations and extra laughter and heart.”

The Great Giveback with Melissa McCarthy and Jenna Perusich is produced by Scott Brothers Entertainment, with McCarthy also serving as Executive Producer.
