David James tells Arsenal to sign player with £65m clause

David James has told Sky Sports News – according to Football Daily – on Tuesday that Arsenal should consider a move to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, but Arsenal certainly have next to no chance of getting him.

Haaland, 21, has performed sensationally again for Dortmund this season. The forward has 25 goals and eight assists in 26 games – and an overall stats of 82 goals and 23 assists in 85 games against Dortmund. But he should go this summer.

Frontrunners who are consistently linked include Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich – the latter potentially looking to replace Robert Lewandowski. The Sun is one of many to cover his £65m clause.

Arsenal are expected to be on the lookout for a striker this summer and have been linked with many – including Dom Calvert-Lewin, Aleksandar Isak and more. However, James thinks they should include Haaland.

“With Haaland coming up for £65m, that’s something – maybe Arsenal should have a word. With all the wonderful football they play, they lack the goal threat.” said James on Tuesday morning, according to Football Daily.

James on Haaland: Do Arsenal have a chance to sign Dortmund?

no Haaland is the crème de la crème, one of the best in the world and is still only 21 years old. The Leeds-born talent is the kind of player who needs to play for a side fighting for league titles. In England there are only two.

Liverpool or Manchester City – and one of them is trying to sign him. Bayern are at the pinnacle of German football and Real Madrid are on the verge of securing La Liga. What James also missed are Haaland’s salaries and agent fees.

City are set to strike a deal and while the transfer fee is affordable, it’s his wages that are on a different level. ESPN Let’s say Haaland wants wages of £500,000 a week, well above Arsenal’s pay structure.

Even if Arsenal finish fourth at the end of the season and qualify for the Champions League, they won’t be able to sign Haaland. Despite his age, the Norwegian talent has already outgrown the Gunners.
