David Moyes knows a thing or two about the fickle nature of top football.

As pointed out by Daily mail, reports suggesting that Moyes was set to replace Slaven Bilic in the West Ham United hot seat in November 2017 have gone down as has a move for Spurs at Boleyn Tavern.

Four and a half years later, there will be some objections if Scots were immortalized in shimmering bronze outside London Stadium.

From being a Manager of the Year candidate in the blink of an eye; Moyes’ career renaissance should be an inspiration to anyone planning a comeback of their own.

Take Ibrahim Amadou for example.

“We planned to bring in two players and then, when injuries happen, ideally we want a third,” said Moyes. Standard back in 2018, explaining how close West Ham came to signing Amadou during that January transfer window.

“That was our intention until 11 a.m. on Wednesday. But, in this event, we didn’t manage it.

“We tried to bring in midfielder Ibrahim Amadou on loan from Lille at the end of the day but we couldn’t cross the line before time ran out.”

Amadou was, at the time, one of the most coveted young players in French football. West Ham’s London neighbor, Crystal Palace, has run two auctions of their own, did not meet Lille’s claim for a man valued at just £18 million (Sports Sky).

Four years on from that deadline, Moyes shares are rarely higher.

If it weren’t for that, seven bad months at Manchester United, we would certainly be talking about the former Everton manager as a potential appointment for some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs right now.

In contrast, Amadou found himself on scraps of paper, released by Sevilla with five months remaining on his contract.

The £14m giants have not made a single appearance for the La Liga giants since 2019, on loan in Norwich City, Leganes and Angers.

A big-money move to the Premier League now doesn’t seem like a real possibility but more like a pipe dream.

But Amadou only needs to look to Moyes for inspiration as he looks to recover from the lowest point in his career.
