Day & Night Nurse and Covonia cold and flu medicines are being withdrawn from the UK market over health concerns

A massive national recall has been issued on dozens of cough medicines due to a potentially deadly ingredient.

It emerged today that medical regulators have withdrawn the drugs from the UK market ‘as a precautionary measure’.

The review found that the benefits of cough and cold medicines containing pholcodine “do not outweigh the increased risk of the very rare event of anaphylaxis.”

Behind the review is the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), which oversees the safety of medicines used in the UK.

It comes as European Medicines Agency (EMA) bosses recommended its withdrawal from the EU market over three months ago in December 2022.
