Childbirth, motherhood, and the loneliness when no one thinks your baby will come out bad were a theme for horror films even before they became a staple of the genre. Rosemary’s infantcame out so it makes sense AHS would dedicate a season to him. Anna Victoria Alcott (Roberts) is basically at the top of the celebrity list as she and partner Dexter (Czurchy) are struggling to conceive. However, when the couple finally has a baby, everything falters as Anna is convinced that someone is following her and that something is wrong with the baby, although no one believes her. Throw in some spooky shots of people in odd robes, and of course goats, and you get some stark clues that something is indeed wrong with the demon spawn brewing inside her.

It’s a very classic horror version, but updated to meet today’s norms. Everyone’s denial of Anna’s problems feels like a woman is being pressured, her need for fame is a driving force and the meta-cast of Kardashian as Anna’s mentor. It all adds up to a hopefully new twist on another well-established American horror genre. Joining this attempt is the rest of the cast: Denis O’Hare, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman, Zachary Quinto, Odessa A’zion and Annabelle Dexter-Jones.

American Horror Story: Tender will be published in two parts, with the first part coming out on September 20, 2023. No release date has been announced for the second half and the ongoing writer and actor strikes could affect when we see the film.
