Deputy responds to domestic unrest and fatally shoots man with shotgun

MYRTLE, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi sheriff’s deputy, responding to a domestic violence call, fatally shot an armed suspect, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said Sunday.

Saturday afternoon’s shooting occurred in the Union County town of Myrtle.

Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said so WTVA TV that the deputy opened a bedroom door and saw a man with a shotgun. The deputy fired several times and retreated.

According to the MBI press release, other police officers entered the house and found the man dead.

Emails were sent to the MBI and the Union County Coroner for additional information on Sunday. The bureau regularly investigates shootings involving law enforcement agencies.
