DeSantis continues to dodge questions about when he will announce a presidential nomination

Ron DeSantis offers no insight into a timeline for when he might announce a presidential bid — and still dodges questions about whether he’ll make an offer despite recent visits to key states of Iowa and Nevada.

The Florida governor wouldn’t tell Fox’s Sunday Morning Futures if his trip to Iowa on Friday was an indication he’s about to make a bid.

Recent reports speculate that DeSantis is considering announcing an offer in mid-to-late May when Florida’s legislative session ends. Meeting with Florida’s supermajority Republican legislature is likely to give the governor a string of victories when it comes to his “anti-wake” agenda.

“Governor, you made a stopover in Iowa this weekend. How was it? Was that the first indication that you were running for President?’ asked Fox host Maria Bartiromo.

“It’s a first indication that we have a great book that people are buying, we’ve had a lot of interest,” DeSantis chuckled.

When reports asked DeSantis if he was planning to announce his run, he jokingly replied, “Wouldn’t you like to know?”

DeSantis’ book tour over the past few weeks has largely been viewed as a pre-announcement campaign swing — with events reflecting political rallies rather than discussions about his memoir.

In remarks on The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival, DeSantis discusses how the US should reflect what he has implemented in the Sunshine State over the past few years in order to achieve greater economic and educational success.

His book, which was an instant bestseller, is viewed as what most can expect from a DeSantis presidential campaign platform in 2024.

Following the release of his memoir late last month, DeSantis embarked on a book tour with stops in deep blue Southern California, the nation’s premier primary contest state, Iowa, and premier swing state, Nevada. He also held an event in his home state of Tampa, Florida on Thursday.

All events were well attended and excited by DeSantis to make a bid for the White House.

“Governor Kim Reynolds is a friend of mine and I often tell people when they ask me in Florida who else did a good job, I always say look at what Iowa did,” DeSantis told Fox News . “They’ve done a lot of things that Florida has done, they have a great legislature.”

Four different PACs have sprung up encouraging the governor to run for president, including one headed by former senior Trump official Ken Cuccinelli.

Florida was once considered a key swing state for presidential elections, but since DeSantis took office in 2018, it has turned a deep red with the help of former President Donald Trump’s coattails.

Trump said that announcing a bid from DeSantis would be very “disloyal,” noting that he would not have succeeded in 2018 without his support.
