Destiny 2’s Root of Nightmares Raid has the highest Competitive mode completion rate in history

Of course, there are a plethora of factors that could accumulate the total number of completions. Aside from Vow of the Disciple, the raid that started during last year’s The Witch Queen DLC, the Root of Nightmares raid gave Guardians 48 hours to complete it while the competition modifier was active, unlike previous ones Raids where only players had 24 hours to work.

This is the second time in franchise history that a newly released raid has been given 48 hours as part of the World’s First Race. Vow of the Disciple was given the same time, but only due to several bugs and errors encountered upon its release.

Another factor might be how simple Root of Nightmares was in terms of mechanics. Unlike Vow, where there were a lot of mechanics and moving parts to remember throughout the activity, Root of Nightmares has one main mechanic at the start of the raid and sticks with it until the end. It took two and a half hours to complete Root of Nightmares, the second-fastest in franchise history, just half an hour behind Destiny 1’s Wrath of the Machine’s two-hour break.

Overall, many players walk away with a shiny new day-one emblem to enjoy. Whether or not this will be a good thing going forward remains to be seen, but either way the launch of Root of Nightmares has been a huge success for Bungie and Destiny 2 as a whole.
