Some viewers have claimed that Chris Rock had a bandage on his face when he was punched by Will Smith during the 2022 Oscars.
The discussion about the 94th Academy Awards is far from over, because wild theories have been circulating since the infamous moment between the two stars.
Some fans are under the impression that the slap was staged onstage and that the comedian wore a cheek pad, suggesting Will’s actions were planned in advance.
That’s just a wild theory and it’s dead wrong.
No, Chris Rock wasn’t wearing a face pad
Reuters clarified in their recent story that the viral image used by some to claim that Chris wore a cheek pad is actually “altered.”
Photographer Brian Snyder captured the original photo of the comedian being slapped by Will.
It’s sized “2713px × 1793px,” as opposed to the image in question, which is “8K quality and sized 7,680px × 4,320px.”
The publication has further claimed that “the skin tone and natural facial lines in the original photo were likely edited in the social media version.”

Reuters has also pointed out that on Oscars night, Chris had light stubble, but that’s not visible in the image, which went viral. This is “another indication that the image has been digitally altered”.
Viewers consider the slap to be “staged”
Those who watched the Oscars took to Twitter to explain why they believe Will’s slap was staged.
A meant: “I can’t believe you guys think that Will Smith’s slap was real. It was staged AF. To what would benefit Chris Rock – publicity, boosting ticket sales.”
“Okay now I think the whole slap by Will and Chris is staged -_- because no one sees the Oscars but now people might lmao” wrote Another.
“I think the ‘Slap’ was a staged event to create a buzz at the Oscars this year and I’m sure they’ll be using it again next year. The Oscars had low attendance and a serious lack of ratings, so what better way to do that than to stage an event?!?” theorized a.
Has the comedian apologized to Will Smith and his wife?
Will publicly apologized to Chris on Instagram, but the comedian has remained silent after the incident.
At the time of writing, Chris has not apologized to either Will or his wife for making a joke about their looks. He also did not respond or make any statement after being beaten on stage.
The comedian has yet to publicly accept Will’s apology.
