While content marketing focuses on creating a new value proposition for stakeholders, content operation focuses on producing high-quality content. This means that the focus of content operators is to assemble high-quality information and deliver it to stakeholders within a specific time frame. The main goal of creating content is to develop a strong relationship between the brand and its customers.
Difference by Audience
Content marketing targets multiple audiences, while content operators target one specific audience. While the target audience varies from one business to another, there are some standard features that all companies need to have to market their products effectively. Therefore, it’s safe to say that all businesses should have their specific target audiences whose needs they need to satisfy.
Difference by Stakeholder Involvement and Ownership
Stakeholders in content marketing are customers, end-users, and employees. Stakeholders in content marketing also involve other stakeholders such as consultants and agencies; however, they are not involved in creating or producing content.
In content operation, the company’s managers, executives, and employees are the stakeholders. Stakeholders in content operation are involved from the start to the finish of the production process.
Difference by Resources
The resources used to create content marketing vary greatly depending on what type of business you’re running. Content marketing requires a lot more resources than producing and delivering a high-quality product or service to your customers. Content creation methodology in CM and COs varies. There are two types of content creation methodology, which includes:

- Producing the content by creating something tangible that can be seen, heard, or felt
This is the traditional way to produce content for marketing purposes. In this method, one creates a piece of writing or a document as a written piece. The content marketer then edits it and publishes it to the world on various channels such as blogs, websites, social networks, and other forms of media outlets such as newsletters or e-newsletters.
On the other hand, content operators can use the more modern method to create content for marketing purposes. This method involves creating actual content that can be seen, heard, or felt. This is done by creating infographics or videos, which are then published on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
