Discover ’80s-inspired Netflix horror tracks

The music in a film or TV show can often make the difference in the final product, as using songs or film scores can add just the right feel to each scene.

That’s hugely important for a movie like the latest Netflix outing, Choose or Die, as the film dives heavily into ’80s nostalgia and eerie, soul-crushing horror.

As such, Choose or Die is packed with music, but what songs feature on the film’s soundtrack and how did the chilling soundtrack come about?

However, Kayla’s plans become complicated when it becomes clear that the computer game is riddled with a deadly curse that brings his potentially deadly choices to life.

With the help of their friend Isaac, the couple find themselves caught in a deadly cycle and must literally choose or die.

Creating the eerie score of Choose or Die

In addition to the film’s rousing, ’80s-inspired tunes, ‘Choose or Die’ also features a haunting soundtrack written by Liam Howlett, a member of The Prodigy who is making his debut as a film composer.

Director Toby Meakins spoke of Liam Howlett’s detailed approach to composing the score: “Liam creates everything from scratch, it’s organic, he doesn’t just pull a drone out of a plugin he actually creates – records the sound, builds it layer for layer on, his attention to detail is microscopic.

“We played them [tracks from the score] On set, when we were shooting, and then in post, I leaned heavily on Liam’s style, the darkness and the tone. All the chest-breaking power of his music became not just the score, but the soundscape of the film – it’s incredible and has an amazing texture, in my opinion.”

“Our approach to scoring each scene was very simple,” the director continued. “He would ask, ‘How do you want the audience to feel, what’s the emotion?’ and it would make me break down the scene in really clear terms.

“It was both of our first feature films, and we were both really honest and open about what we knew and didn’t know. I feel like we helped each other through the process. It was a fantastic experience working with him, one of the great joys of making the film for me.”
