Disney is making Hocus Pocus 3 – The Hollywood Reporter

Other mumbo-jumbo is being worked on.

Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, confirmed in an interview with The New York Times The Hocus pocus 3 it happens.

That’s no surprise given the success of last year’s sequel, which broke a record 2.7 billion minutes viewed for an opening weekend of a movie on a streamer. Overall, the film was the 5th most streamed film of 2022 with a total of 5.7 billion minutes watched.

Although the first film was not a box office hit, it has become a cult hit over the years thanks to its airing on basic cable television.

The third film would follow Kenny Ortega’s 1993 original and last year’s Anne Fletcher-directed sequel, in which Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy would play the Sanderson sisters Winifred, Sarah and Mary, a trio of witches who suck to drain the life force of the children to stay young.

In the Hocus pocus 2 Premiered last year, executive producer Adam Shankman hinted The Hollywood Reporter that there were more stories to tell. This film introduced teenage girl Becca (Whitney Peak), who turns out to be a witch herself.

Fletcher “handled it [storyline] really, really beautiful,” Shankman said of Becca’s discovery. “We thought forever about how this would work, if it would work, and Anne was like, ‘We’re going to do that.’ And I think it’s great. And it creates a lot of excitement about possible spin-offs.”

It’s unclear if there have been discussions with Midler, Parker and Najimy. Midler for her part told Weekly entertainment last year that she would be willing to reprise her role.

“I’d like to have a franchise — especially a character that I enjoy playing,” she said. “Of course, if there were a third party, I would sign up, but I don’t know how. I can’t imagine what the story would be like, but I love Winifred, Sarah, Mary and our relationship. It’s good for women. We stick together through hell and high water, but we cause chaos, and not many women cause that much chaos.”
