First Kill is a rite of passage for legacy vampires
In the Legacy world, a young vampire’s first kill is a big deal, as the ritual marks it maturity into vampires. The milestone is celebrated in a inauguration ceremony held on the first moon after the kill.

Juliette’s first attempt doesn’t work
