Spoiler alert: This article contains major spoilers for Season 4 Part 2 of You.

The good news is the second half of the final season of You is now streaming on Netflix, which means we finally know what will become of troubled serial killer Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley). The bad news is that we’re saying goodbye to one of television’s most interesting, messy characters, whose inner monologues were almost poetry.

Thank God, You doesn’t leave us without some wild twists and turns that honestly no one saw coming, especially when it comes to Rhys Montrose (Ed Speleers). In part 1 of season 4 it seems that the boy who went on the wrong side of the road and became an author is ridding the world of the selfishly rich people who seem to rule it, all in the name of making this planet one better place to live. In one scene, however, we meet two Rhyses. Does he have a twin or should we have our eyes checked?

Does Rhys have a twin in You?

There is indeed a Rhys Montrose, but before we get into why we’re seeing double, it’s important to lay the groundwork for his relationship with Joe. They first meet at the Sundry House, the elite social club owned by Adam (Lukas Gage), a wealthy American who only smokes in his bank account. What binds Joe and Rhys is the fact that they both wandered into this opulent world, and neither is sure they want to say it. That same night, Joe gets extremely drunk and wakes up with a dead body in his apartment.

When other members of the privileged squad are caught by a killer the press has dubbed the Eat The Rich Killer, Joe receives messages from a mysterious figure who knows all about his violent past. This person uses this knowledge to blackmail Joe into becoming an unwilling accomplice in the murders, culminating in a weekend getaway where it is revealed that Rhys is the Eat The Rich killer who also sent messages to Joe.

This brings us to the end of Part 1 of Season 4, where Rhys announces his candidacy for mayor and Joe vows to bring him down. At least we thought that would happen. And then part 2 of season 4 changed everything.

That brings us to Rhys’ twin (who isn’t actually his twin).

Now that Joe knows who Rhys really is, all he can think about is destroying him. But wait, another villain has entered the chat room in the form of Kate’s (Charlotte Ritchie) father (played by Greg Kinnear), whose corporate misdeeds border on the psychotic. Apparently Rhys wants Joe to kill Kate’s dad because he knows the truth about Rhys: the memoir that made him famous has been buffed up a bit. At an exciting dinner with Kate and her father, he reveals that he also knows who Joe is and wants Joe to get rid of Rhys.

There are so many enemies in the last season of You and none of them seem to be Joe, do they? Something important to know is when Joe tried unsuccessfully to record Rhys admitting to being the killer, Rhys told him that at one point he had kidnapped Marienne (Tati Gabrielle) and was using her as security. With all that brewing on Joe’s mind, he heads to Rhys’ cottage in the country to finish him off for good.
