Don Hutchison says Rangers players ignored their teammate tonight

Well, Rangers didn’t win the Europa League final.

The Gers in Seville were heartbroken when Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side lost to Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties after the game ended 1-1 after two hours of football.

Aaron Ramsey missed Rangers’ crucial penalty on a night when the Scottish Premiership side actually took the lead through Joe Aribo.

Towards the end of extra time, Ryan Kent had a brilliant shot at victory for the Light Blues, which was only thwarted by goalie Kevin Trapp’s legs.

It was one of those rare moments that Kent put himself in a promising position tonight.

And Don Hutchison thinks his Rangers teammates didn’t get the ball to him nearly enough.

He said BBC Radio 5 Live: “I don’t think Rangers played Ryan Kent enough. Eintracht was there to beat. Maybe it was a bridge too far. It was there to be won.”

Kent, a former Liverpool player, will be devastated.

He didn’t take any of Rangers’ five penalties and therefore didn’t miss, but Hutchison is right when he says he just wasn’t that regular in the game.

This is a player who has been linked again with Leeds United among others in recent weeks.

And his reported admirers won’t have been stunned by his performance tonight, it has to be said.

In the semifinals, RB Leipzig coach Domenico Tedesco singled out Kent as one of the Rangers players he was wary of and that’s because he’s certainly a dangerous player on his day.

But for some reason the 25-year-old couldn’t give his best in today’s Rangers Europa League final and it will no doubt stick in his memory for a while.
