DoorDash driver refuses to walk 9 flights of stairs for a $1 tip

A DoorDash driver’s response to a customer who expected them to walk up 9 flights of stairs for a $1 tip sparked a viral debate on both TikTok and Reddit.

The TikTok account @movesfinancial A text conversation between a DoorDash driver and a customer who ordered a meal through the delivery platform was highlighted.

The app’s end user asked the driver to take their food up nine flights of stairs despite only giving them a dollar for their services upfront because the elevator was broken.

The driver explained to them that they would not do that, especially not for so little money.

The TikToker says in the clip: “This DoorDash customer asked to be dropped off at his ninth floor apartment. They tipped their dasher a dollar. When the dasher left the food at the building’s front desk, the customer said this is not the place I requested. To which the dasher replied saying that unfortunately the elevators are out of service for emergency repairs.”

She continued the story of the delivery dispute: “And the customer said they had stairs. So tell me, as Dasher, would you walk up nine flights of stairs for a one-dollar tip? Let me know it!”

Viewers who saw the clip did just that, and judging by the comments section, it didn’t seem like there were too many people who thought it was okay for a DoorDash customer to expect their delivery driver to going up nine floors to deliver him dug right to her door for just a $1 tip.

“Don’t let her go downstairs. I have a regular customer who lives on the seventh floor and never tips.

Another wrote, “I wouldn’t do that for a $20 tip,” while another thought it was pretty dirty for the DoorDash customer to order food direct to their door when they knew the elevator was broken, and still expected the delivery man to walk up so many flights of stairs for just a dollar.

“Come on, don’t order delivery when you know the elevator is broken and you live 9 floors up. And if so, at least leave a reasonable tip,” they wrote.

Another said that regardless of the tip amount, they still wouldn’t walk up as many flights of stairs to bring their customers their food.

“lol no. Tip aside, I don’t go up 9 floors for a meal delivery.”

And then there were customers who said that kind of expectation was absurd: “As a human, I would never expect a Dasher to go up 9 stories, even if I did a good tilt.”

It appears that the conversation the TikToker is referring to is one found on Reddit’s sub r/DoorDash_Drivers, posted by a user on the platform with the online handle @karlallan.

After the customer tells them the building has stairs, the driver replies with, “Ha! I have a heart condition. But even if I didn’t, your dollar tip wouldn’t be nearly enough to climb 9 floors.”

Karlallan responded that the customer “became really hostile” after reading her response, saying that since she’s also a DoorDash driver, they would have given OP more cash if they went up the nine flights of stairs.

However, the Redditor seemed less concerned about their power struggles with the DoorDash client and more responsive to how scary the U.S. economy has become, emphasizing the fact that the media and government are pitting individuals with different identity politics against each other while a Handful of elites manipulate all wealth.

They released a massive tirade about the petty idiocy, lots of talk about how tipping/not tipping is becoming a finger pointing game between people being exploited by an economic system of resources stacked against citizens trying to get out of a pull out culture of poverty.

“Unless you stop working entirely and can live your life on your own terms, you are committed to a system that will overwork and underpay you just to enrich a handful of guys who are fast approaching trillions in wealth,” they said , before continuing, “If you make a million dollars a year, you’re still poor, but they told you that was wealth.”
