Draft NFL prospects in the Fenway Bowl in 2021

The dismal season gives fans and scouts the chance to analyze the NFL Draft’s outlook against solid competition. Scheduling bowls allows all eyes to be on each match. Here’s the NFL Draft outlook for the 2021 Fenway Bowl.
Draft Prospects of Virginia Cavaliers
Armstrong has been one of the more advanced players in the nation this season, and it helped Virginia qualify for a flop. He has 6,819 yards of passes, 51 touchdowns and 23 interceptions with a 63.1% completion rate. This season, he’s gone 4,444 yards, 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions with a 65.3% completion rate.
He’s solidly sized for an NFL quarterback at 6 foot-2 and 215 pounds. Armstrong not only demonstrated his ability to throw throws all over the pitch, but he was also able to move and make plays with his feet. . He’s publicly still deciding whether he’ll go pro or go back to college for another season. If he declares, he is a tentative late-round pick.
Expected range: Pick the fourth round-Choose the sixth round
Keytaon Thompson, WR
After beginning his career as a quarterback at Mississippi State, Thompson moved to Virginia and transitioned to early receivers widely. He has 1,153 yards of javelin, 1,079 picks and a total of 22 touchdowns in his career. This season, he’s raced for 247 yards and four touchdowns, while also making 77 passes for 973 yards and two touchdowns.
Thompson’s size was a big selling point for the teams that cast him, as he was 6 feet-4 and 215 pounds. He’s likely to continue to grow as a broad-spectrum recorder, and in the meantime, he could turn into a battle-wild cat, which is what he showed off at Virginia. Thompson is a tentative late pick or free agent yet to be built
Expected Range: Free agent picks in sixth round
* Tight ending Jelani Woods opted out of the bowl game. He is a tentative late-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Other draft prospects: S Joey Blount (UFA), OT Ryan Nelson (UFA), LB Nick Jackson (UFA), WR Dontayvion Wicks (UFA)
Prospective Draft of Mustangs SMU
Grant Calcaterra, TE
Calcaterra started his career at Oklahoma and then retired from football before returning to play at SMU. He made 79 touches for 1,102 yards and 13 touchdowns in his career. This season after retiring, Calcaterra has had 38 catches for 465 yards and four touchdowns.
At 6-foot-4 and 242-pound, Calcaterra will need to add a little extra weight to fit the NFL as a drag. His receptivity is well worth the NFL’s consideration. Calcaterra has not announced that he will sit out the bowl game, but other players in SMU will not be playing. He is predicted to be a mid to late round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Expected range: Pick the fourth round-Choose the sixth round
Tanner Mordecai, QB
Mordecai is another player who moved from Oklahoma to SMU. He was a substitute for Oklahoma and SMU gave him a chance to play. At Oklahoma, he raced for 639 yards, four touchdowns and one interception with a 71.4% completion rate. During his one season at SMU, Mordecai passed 3,628 yards, 39 touchdowns and 12 interceptions with a completion rate of 67.8%.
He’s the average size for an NFL quarterback of 6 feet-2 and 211 pounds. Mordecai only has a year to review, which could make teams wary of picking him. He still has some eligibility, so he can go back to school. Currently, he is an untrained freelancer.
Expected draft scope: Free agent not yet drafted
* Wide receiver Reggie Roberson Jr opted out of the bowl game. He is a scheduled mid-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
