Drew and Jonathan Scott star in Brother Versus Brother: No Rules on HGTV

Sibling rivalry ahead! HGTV superstars Drew and Jonathan Scott are reviving their popular competition show Brother vs. Brother in early 2023. Brother vs. Brother: No Rules will debut January 11 at 9 p.m. Eastern with an all-star cast. Here’s the rundown of what to expect…

The final season of Brother vs. Brother aired in October 2020, when Drew beat Jonathan — not only in judges’ opinion, but also in budget terms. The Hancock Park home he flipped in the Los Angeles area sold for $200,000 more profit than Jonathan’s.

The show was a ratings hit for HGTV, and in November 2021 the network announced it had been renewed for a new season, scheduled to air in summer 2022. Season 8 has been pushed back to January 2023 for unknown reasons.

In the new six-episode season, the big twist is that, for the first time, there will be no rules. This means there are no restrictions on budgets, renovations or the location of the homes the Property Brothers work on. This allows Drew to choose a “hill fixer upper” while Jonathan chooses a “beach house” to update.

Throughout the season of “Brother Versus Brother: No Rules,” HGTV says, the twins’ older brother, JD, will serve as the referee, and Jonathan’s girlfriend, Zooey Deschanel, will provide guidance, having lived in LA all her life .

Meanwhile, a host of celebrities from HGTV, Food Network and Discovery+ will serve as judges and judge the twins’ weekly design challenges. Read on for details…

Each week this season of Brother vs. Brother, a high-profile panel of judges from HGTV, Food Network and Discovery+ shows will be judging the brothers’ designs. HGTV’s celebrity judges include:

  • David Bromstad from HGTV’s “My Lottery Dream Home”
  • Jasmine Roth from Help! I destroyed my house”
  • Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson from “Married to Real Estate”
  • Designer Breegan Jane, who hosted HGTV digital series The House My Wedding Bought and previously appeared in Brother vs. Brother
  • Veronica Valencia from upcoming 2023 series Revealed

Also joining the panel of judges are Food Network’s Alex Guarnaschelli and Discovery+ stars Trixie Mattel of Property Brothers-produced Trixie Motel and Kendra Wilkinson of Kendra Sells Hollywood.

Each week, the winner of the latest challenge not only earns bragging rights, but will also be rewarded with “special opportunities,” according to HGTV, including the chance to operate the Mars rover at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab and ride in a legendary vehicle, the Petersen automobile museum.

Meanwhile, the “loser” of the challenge must endure a variety of “humiliating duties” each week, such as being responsible for cleaning up after the week’s winner and their date enjoy an elaborate dinner, or from the other brother in two LA’s infamous Magic Castle, a members-only club dedicated to the magical arts.

Both brothers are competitive and get seriously pumped to compete.

“After competing in my own neighborhood last season, I walked away victorious and there’s no way I’m going to let Jonathan take the title away from me,” Drew said in a statement.

But Jonathan, who says the series will feature “some of our wildest Renos ever,” thinks it’s his time to fly.

He added, “I want my shot to win in LA and now that I live here too it’s going to be a fair fight that I want to win.”
