New dad Drew Scott has poked fun at HGTV host Erin Napier’s recent baby drama — and he’s let her know!
On June 28, 2022 Napier shared a photo on Instagram of her daughter Mae, stretched out and face down on the floor, writing, “When you’re one and you can walk but you just don’t feel like it and you’re insanely insane and MOM YOU CAN CARRY ME JUST ALL ONE.”
Scott, co-host of hit HGTV show Property Brothers, must have found the post both funny and endearing; He captioned it with a laughing emoji and two red hearts. Or maybe he’s relieved that he’s not yet after an agile, moody toddler. He became a father to Parker James for the first time a few weeks ago, on May 12th.
However, this isn’t the first time Scott has commented on one of Napier’s Instagram posts. He was particularly supportive and amused by the “hometown” star insights into life as a parent, even before he becomes a father himself. When Napier reported it the arrival of Baby Mae On May 28, 2021, Scott wrote, “Sooo happy for you,” followed by four red hearts.
In December 2021, Scott chimed in afterwards Napier posted a photo of a new keepsake: a plain sheet of paper on which her young daughter, Helen, had practiced writing the names of the people – and animals – in her family. In the caption, Napier wrote, “She’ll be four in a few weeks and she writes and spells and I’m crying because it’s the coolest thing I’ve ever experienced.” Scott commented, “I love how she takes your names.” and Ben practices. At 4 she made her way.”
Scott considers Erin and Ben Napier to be the “most popular hosts” on HGTV
Scott is aware he’s not the only person who loves and follows the Napiers’ adventures, from renovation to parenthood. In June 2021, The Napiers appeared on an episode of the podcast At Home. Scott is co-hosting with his wife Linda, who has gushed about the couple and their two girls. “You’re all so adorable,” she said. “I just want to hug them all!”
Scott told the Napiers, “I really, I think you’re HGTV’s most popular hosts.”
He may be right; in a (n Press Release April 2022HGTV revealed that “Home Town” was the second most-watched cable TV show in the US, with 13 more new episodes scheduled to air in 2022 and 2023. However, the Scott brothers could also claim the “most popular” title. given the number of Property Brothers spin-off shows, licensing deals and social media followers they have piled up (they have 2.5 times more Instagram followers than the Napiers, for example).
“Heimatstadt” might never have existed without an Instagram post about the “Property Brothers.”
During their interview on the ‘At Home’ podcast, the Napiers opened up about how they got their start on television – and excitedly recalled the ‘Property Brothers’ playing a part in the story. The couple recalled being featured in a 2014 issue of Southern Weddings magazine., especially since Erin was making a living as a wedding stationery designer at the time. In addition to her designs, the article included many photos of her charming home in Laurel, Mississippi. It caught the attention of HGTV program executive Lindsey Weidhorn, who followed Erin on Instagram. Erin followed her back, thinking the TV producer might be interested in ordering stationery.
“She posted that she watched a rough cut of your show,” Erin Scott said during the podcast. Already a fan of “Property Brothers,” she commented on Weidhorn’s post, exclaiming that she has a really cool job. To the Napiers’ surprise, the producer said she was glad Erin reached out and asked if they could connect via email. Soon they were in discussions about a possible TV show and flying to New York for meetings.
“If she hadn’t posted about editing your rough cut, I wouldn’t have left a comment,” Erin told Scott. “If I hadn’t left the comment, she wouldn’t have said ’email me.’ We would never have had a conversation about the show!”
Scott wasn’t surprised that the Napiers impressed executives and have since become household names. “What you do with your shows is just so open and welcoming and inspiring to people,” he said. “Your designs and all of your craftsmanship are just surrounded by love and that’s why I think your shows are … addictive.”
