Dry and quite warm on Friday

WLKY meteorologist Daniel Johnson has the latest forecast.

DATE. NOW YOUR WLKY WEATHER WITH METEOROLOGIST DANIEL JOHNSON. It’s a beautiful evening out there. The sky clears and you can see the moon on the right side of your screen. Look at this looming over the city. So it’s a really beautiful sight with the moon looking toward downtown Louisville right there on our sky camera. You can even see the buildings reflected in the calm Ohio River. So a really nice evening out there. Temperatures here in the city are 75°C. Most of us are in the 60s outside the city. So it’s nice and cooling and there’s an easterly wind blowing at six miles an hour. Today’s official high was 86. DO YOU FEEL MORE LIKE SUMMER TODAY? YES, TECHNICALLY IT IS SUMMER. We’re just a few days away from the first day of fall, but our average high for this time of year is 81 degrees. So we were five degrees above where we should be and the precipitation gauge showed no rain today. IT’S BEEN NINE DAYS, DAYS, NINE DAYS since we’ve seen the increasing rainfall. NO RAIN TODAY AS I MENTIONED. And because we haven’t seen much rain, we only had a quarter of an inch this month. THAT IS ALMOST 2.5 INCHES BELOW THE AVERAGE. AND FOR THE YEAR WE ARE TWO INCHES BELOW AVERAGE. So we are officially entering a drought. So we have to watch this closely. AND WE HAVE ALMOST NO CHANCE OF RAIN HERE FOR THE NEXT FIVE DAYS. Maybe a trace or something for the next five days. The rain remains in our west and there is a lot of rain in the east. This is coming from a possible tropical system. We’ll talk about that in a few seconds. BUT TEMPERATURES OUT THE DOOR. WE ARE LOOKING FOR 65 IN NORTH VERNON AND SEYMOUR, SALEM, 68, E-TOWN, 65, AND HODGENVILLE. So most of us are battling a few clouds in the 1960s, or at least we were earlier today. THESE ARE NOW PUSHING TO THE EAST AND MANY OF THEM ARE DISSOLVING AND THAT’S IT. We don’t see any organized precipitation heading our way. SOME STORMS NEAR KANSAS CITY, BUT NOT EXPECTED TO GO IN THAT DIRECTION. We expect dry weather over the next few days. Let’s talk about the tropics, because they’re still pretty active. YOU CAN SEE A SMALL SPIN ACROSS THE COAST OF FLORIDA AND GEORGIA THAT WILL LIKELY BECOME EITHER SUBTROPIC OR TROPICAL STORM OPHELIA SOMETIME TONIGHT OR SOMETIME TOMORROW. AND THIS WILL HAPPEN. Over the weekend it will move into North Carolina, through Richmond, Virginia, into the Delmarva Peninsula and on through Philadelphia and New York, bringing some flooding, coastal flooding, storm surge and some dangerous rainfall and winds for this part of the country. BUT NOTHING FOR US. CLEAR SKY, REALLY COMFORTABLE TONIGHT, TOMORROW IT WILL BE A LITTLE WARMER THAN TODAY, 87. It wouldn’t surprise me if we even hit 88 degrees in some places. So the upper 90s are flirting with the 90s or the upper 80s. FLIRTING WITH 90. LOTS OF SUNSHINE WHEN TOMORROW TEMPERATURES ARE IN THE 80’S LOUD THAN LIFE. ALL DAY THE GATES OPEN AT 12.00 PM. GODSMACK COMES ON STAGE AT 7:00 PM. It will be 83 degrees and the device will be 9:00 am. TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 70S FUTURECAST. IT SHOWS NOTHING. ONLY CLEARANCE OF HEAVEN. LOTS OF SUNSHINE FOR YOUR FRIDAY. Looks fantastic for all outdoor activities. FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL. ANOTHER FANTASTIC FRIDAY. AND ALSO LOOK AT THE SUNSHINE ON SATURDAY AND WE KEEP IT JUST A DRY PATTERN GOING INTO SUNDAY. THE HUMIDITY IS LOW, BUT THE TEMPERATURES ARE ACTUALLY COZY HERE. Our next chance for rain is Tuesday and Wednesday, but it will be isolated. WE DON’T EXPECT MUCH. So the weather continues to be dry, but I wanted to talk about this celestial event. We are facing a partial solar eclipse. THIS IS WHAT OUR SUN WILL LOOK LIKE, RICK, ON OCTOBER 14TH, IN 23 DAYS. By the way, my birthday. Yes, quite an impressive site. And in the west there will be an annular solar eclipse for us. IT WILL BE PARTIAL. The sun will look like a crescent moon and last a few hours. So happy birthday. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. AND DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN. WE WILL CONTINUE TALKING ABOUT THE SOLAR ECLIPSE. We know each other. Look at this box and look at this shadow. And we got the glasses when we had them
