Dunelm donates thousands of Christmas gifts to children in St Helens

A FESTIVE project designed to bring joy at Christmas resulted in more than 3500 gifts aimed at children in St Helens.

As part of Dunelm’s ‘Delivering Joy’ campaign, the retailer left tags under its in-store Christmas tree requested by children and local organizations throughout the festive season.

The home furnishings store supports local charities that can provide gifts to families in need and encouraged shoppers to select an item to purchase from the store.

Despite concerns about the cost of living crisis, Dunelm collected more than 60,000 gifts from shoppers across the country, triple the number of its previous two Christmas campaigns.

A whopping 3539 gifts were donated at the St Helens Retail Park store which were delivered to families through local charities Teardrops, Making Space, St Helens Care Home, St Helens Young Carers Center and Torus Foundation.

In the lead up to Christmas, the star reported heartbreaking reactions to the Dunelm festive project.

Aware that money is tight for families this year, some children asked for basic items like hats, scarves, cookies and coloring books.

A message from a 12-year-old boy captured the hearts of people across St Helens as he asked for a “teddy bear to hold in case Santa doesn’t come for me”.

After such calls were shared on social media, the response overwhelmed staff as donations poured in to ensure no child was left without a gift to open on Christmas Day.

Kelly Nichols, Store Manager at Dunelm St Helens said: “With the cost of living crisis making Christmas a challenging time for many, we are very pleased with the outcome of our campaign.

“It was a real pleasure for me to be able to bring joy and support the needy again this year.

“I want to say a big thank you to all of our customers who have kindly donated gifts, your generosity is truly inspiring.”
