According to TMZ, Solo was arrested in the parking lot of a Winston-Salem Walmart and taken into custody on charges of drunk driving and resisting arrest. Officials told TMZ that two children were in the car with her at the time.

Solo was taken to the Forsyth County Jail for processing, where she was charged with driving, resisting arrest and child molestation. Accordingly fox 46 Solo was subsequently released in North Carolina.

Solo’s attorney, Rich Nichols, said in a statement: “Upon the advice of her attorney, Hope is unable to speak out about this situation, but she wants everyone to know that her children are her life, that she was released immediately and is now at home with her family that the story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest and that she looks forward to her opportunity to defend those charges.

Solo competed in season 13 of Dancing With the Stars alongside pro partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. They finished fourth amid a tumultuous partnership.

Chmerkovskiy later said on the “Supposedly With Theo Von & Matthew Cole Weiss” Podcast that Solo was “just a friggin’ person”.

“She’s just a shitty person. People can be bad or good or whatever,” Chmerkovskiy said. “You can live a shitty life growing up. You can have a tough upbringing. You can have history. You can have it all. But if you’re just a bad person, you know what I mean? There is no excuse for that.”

The retired soccer player was arrested in 2014 after an altercation with her half-sister Teresa Obert and her teenage nephew on domestic violence charges. According to Kirkland, Washington, arrest report, Solo yelled at one of the arresting officers, “You’re such a f**k. You’re scared of me because you know if the handcuffs were off I’d kick your ass.”

After this incident, Solo showed up “Good Morning America” saying that she was the victim in the situation, something Obert disputed with in an interview ESPN’s “Outside the Lines”.

“I won’t go into all the details, but it was a scary night. I was a victim of domestic violence at the hands of my 17 year old nephew who is 6’1″ and weighs 280 pounds. I was hit in the head and had a pretty bad concussion. It was a very scary night,” Solo told Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts.

Obert told Outside the Lines that wasn’t the case, saying: “I felt like I’d just been kicked in the head. She should have been happy, but then she happens to say “Good Morning America” and lies. I was very angry. It never had anything to do with size. She’s been trying his whole life to make him feel small. He’s not aggressive. She is a trained athlete. She is strong.”

In a statement to ESPN, Solo’s attorney said that Obert’s son was the “real attacker.”

“Police reports and other court documents clearly show that the alleged victims radically changed their stories multiple times and twice refused to answer questions under oath despite court orders,” the attorney’s statement said. “Had the case gone to trial and the witnesses questioned under oath, the defense would have proved that Teresa’s son, not Hope, was the real attacker and that Hope suffered a concussion as a result of her nephew’s unlawful conduct.”

The charges against Solo were later dismissed.
