Dancing With the Stars mirrorball champion and wildlife activist Bindi Irwin spoke emotionally about her ten-year battle with pain from endometriosis Instagram post on March 7, 2023.
In the post, Irwin shared that she wasn’t initially sure if she wanted to share the information about her surgery, but decided she had to. Before she was diagnosed with endometriosis, Irwin said her symptoms included nausea, pain, and fatigue. She added that a doctor told her her symptoms were only because she was a woman, but she continued to seek a doctor who would help her.
“I have decided to have surgery for endometriosis,” Irwin wrote. “It was scary having to have surgery, but I knew I couldn’t live as I was. Every part of my life has been torn apart because of the pain. Long story short, they found 37 lesions, some very deep and difficult to remove, and one chocolate cyst.”
She thanked her friends, family and the doctors who helped her.
“I am on the road to recovery and the gratitude I feel is overwhelming,” Irwin wrote. “To those questioning the canceled plans, unanswered messages and absence – I have poured every ounce of my remaining energy into our daughter and family.”
According to the Mayo ClinicEndometriosis is a painful condition in which tissue normally found inside the uterus grows outside the uterus. The disorder can also affect the uterus, causing severe pain and fertility problems.
Bindi Irwin encouraged people to stop asking women when they will have children

“Things may look good on the outside looking in through the window of someone’s life, but that’s not always the case,” she wrote in the Instagram post. “Please be gentle and pause before you ask me (or any other woman) when we will have more children. After everything my body has been through, I am incredibly grateful that we have our beautiful daughter. She feels like the miracle of our family.”
The “Crikey! The It’s the Irwins star hopes to end the stigma surrounding endometriosis and encourages her followers to “keep looking for answers” and assures them their pain is real.
Bindi Irwin’s brother and husband shared their support
Bindi Irwin is very close to her brother Robert and he supported her after she posted about the surgery. In his instagram post, Robert wrote that he is proud of Bindi for telling her story.
“Endometriosis is a terrible, debilitating disease and too many women endure it in silence or are never diagnosed,” he wrote. “Bindi, your story of resilience is a beacon for suffering women around the world – and a wake-up call for men too. It is *everyone*’s responsibility to be allies for women’s health and help raise awareness.”
commented Bindi, “Thank you for being the best brother. For always being there. Love you very much.”
In Powell’s post, he called Irwin an inspiration.
“The greatest gift of all is knowing that you will be completely free of endometriosis after surgery. I can’t wait to start this new chapter in my life with you.” he wrote.
