Dancing With the Stars professional dancer Cheryl Burke is currently in the midst of a divorce from her husband of almost three years, Matthew Lawrence. After he responded to her divorce petition, she took a dramatic step to get him out of her life.
Cheryl deleted all mentions of Matthew from her Instagram
On Instagram, Cheryl unfollowed her soon-to-be ex-husband and trashed all photos of him. Remarkably, she had already posted footage of them together around the holiday season as of December 2021, but now her feed assumes some time before the holidays with former “Dancing With the Stars” contestant and guest host Leah Remini and singer Marc Anthony and a sponsored one post about fitness, to an uplifting post about all the lessons Cheryl learned from professor and lecturer Brene Brown, then it jumps on to a post-Christmas post about diamond painting and a New Year’s Eve photo dump.
In her Pre-Christmas mail Writing about Brown’s acronym for trust, “BRAVING,” which stands for Boundaries, Reliability, Accountability, Vaulting, Integrity, Nonjudgment, and Generosity, Cheryl wrote that Brown’s teachings have helped her with her “relationship patterns.”
[BRAVING is] It really helps me to break down what I need for trust to be built in relationships in my life. And I find it easy to use almost as an inventory of each of my relationships and what I need from them.
I’ve always researched this type of thing (and seen some of it before), but I’ve never seen it put together in such a clear and digestible way. So I wanted to share with you in case you or someone you know might also find it helpful.
Brené’s teachings have helped me so much between my struggles with addiction, trauma and relationship patterns. And I look forward to delving more into this inventory from her book Braving the Wilderness.
This post went live just over two weeks before the date Cheryl listed as her official split from Matthew in her Jan. 7 divorce filing.
Matthew responded to Cheryl’s divorce proceedings on March 18
A month after Cheryl filed for divorce on February 18, Matthew replied on March 18, agreeing to most of her terms. but Radar online reports that in his response, Matthew requested that she pay his legal fees for the upcoming proceedings, while in her petition she asked her to pay her own legal fees.
He agreed to everything else, including agreeing that the judge should enforce their marriage contract and that neither of them should be forced to pay the other spousal support.
Cheryl and Matthew met through “Dancing With the Stars,” but not because Matthew was a contestant. It was actually his older brother, actor Joey Lawrence, who starred on the show in 2006’s third season. Cheryl and Matthew dated briefly before separating for almost 10 years, then reconciling in 2017 and wed in May 2019.
When news of their divorce broke, a source said “Entertainment Tonight” that they “have been having issues for a while” and a second source said a breakup was “a long time coming.”
“They have a lot of history together and while they hoped this time would be different, it proved otherwise. They have been living separate lives for a few months,” the second source said.
Dancing With the Stars has not yet been renewed for season 31. If extended, it will return in September 2022.
