Fans believe Louis van Amstel was brought back for a same-sex male couple
On RedditFans have theorized that the reason old-school professional dancer Louis van Amstel was brought back for season 31 is because he’s openly gay and she’s dating van Amstel and “Bachelor” star Colton the first same-sex male couple Underwood, who came out of the closet in April 2021 and has since appeared on a few different reality shows — “Beyond the Edge” on CBS and “Coming Out Colton” on Netflix.
The reason fans think Underwood is on Dancing With the Stars is because of the reality commentator ZacharyReality posted a TikTok He said he received tips that Underwood would star in season 31 of Dancing With the Stars.
Fans aren’t happy about this potential casting situation because they consider Underwood “a total creep” as a fan wrote on Reddit.
“I’m a ‘Bachelor’ fan, but he’s not. He’s controversial, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they cast him and paired him with Louis.” wrote a second fan.
A fifth fan wrote, “I really hope he’s not in a man/man relationship with Louis. I will FULFILL if they get my husband Louis dirty this season!! He came back after 10 seasons because he cried out loud and when he gets together with this guy he really deserves better.”
A fan said that they didn’t think Van Amstel would come back to be in the first male same-sex couple because “he hates labels and that would just be such a big one”.
Van Amstel was a pro on Dancing With the Stars for seasons 1-3, 6, 9-12 and 15, then he was brought back for season 21. But he hasn’t danced on the show since that season, which aired in fall 2015. Van Amstel has never won the Mirrorball trophy; The closest he came to a third-place finish was season 9 with Kelly Osbourne.
As for the confirmation of a same-sex couple, Dancing With the Stars insider Kristyn Burtt is tweeted, “I have no news on a same-sex couple so far. But some of us were just talking about the lack of diversity yesterday.”
Underwood has a troubled history
In case you didn’t know, Underwood made headlines when he ended up dating Cassie Randolph after his season of The Bachelor wrapped. She was the third-place finisher to voluntarily leave the show. They later dated, but when things ended, Randolph was eventually granted a restraining order against Underwood, accusing him of stalking and harassment, installing a tracking device on her car, and showing up at her home uninvited. according to Us Weekly.
By varietyRandolph eventually dropped the restraining order against Underwood, and after coming out as gay, publicly apologized to Randolph in the Variety article, saying he didn’t use his coming out to change the narrative around him.
“I never want people to think that I’m coming out to change the narrative or that I’m throwing out my actions and not taking responsibility, and now that I have this gay life I don’t have to deal with mine dealing with a past straight male,” said Underwood, who was unable to comment on specifics due to a mutual agreement between the two.
But he added that his behavior towards her and her family was not what he was “as a person” and that he didn’t want to behave like that.
“I’m sorry, and I want her to know that I hope she has the best and most beautiful life,” he concluded.
On Reddit, Dancing With the Stars fans are hoping he wasn’t invited to join the dance show due to his past behavior.
“That would be really terrible. Very annoying that there are constant rewards for toxic behavior (the events leading up to Colton’s coming out)” wrote a fan.
“[H]He would 1000% do the show if offered and I will 1000% make sure he’s first off the show when he’s on it.” wrote another fan.
