“Dance with the Stars” Judge Carrie Ann Inaba mourns the loss of an artist who has “greatly” inspired her work as a dancer – Franco Dragone, creator of some of Cirque du Soleil’s most celebrated shows.

Dragone died of a heart attack on September 30

Dragone’s death has been announced on its official website. It is said he was scouting manufacturing sites in Egypt when he suffered a heart attack and died in a Cairo hospital.

The website reads:

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Franco Dragone. The Dragone company and Franco’s family thank you all for the support and love from all over the world. Franco was an entertainment titan, but more importantly, he was a colleague to us, a father, a husband and a friend.

On September 30, 2022, he suffered a heart attack and died in a Cairo hospital. Franco was in Egypt to explore the historical site for a possible production.

We ask you all, as he would, to continue to “shake the stage” and push the boundaries of what is possible. We will carry his torch and we hope that all touched by him will do the same.

It also includes a famous quote from Dragone that says: “Every little thing, even the most trivial, can be reinvented with imagination, as if seen through the eyes of a child.”

He joined Cirque du Soleil in the 1980s as creative director and was instrumental in the creation of some of the production’s most celebrated shows, including Mystere, Alegria, O and La Nouba. Dragone also produced Celine Dion’s residency show “A New Day” in Las Vegas.

Inaba said Dragone was an inspiration to her in many ways

On Instagram, Inaba wrote a tribute to Dragone and his workShe wishes for him “eternal peace and creativity”.

Inab wrote:

I never met him. But my life was heavily inspired by his work. #cirquedusoleil #mystere #o

He had a way of bringing the fringe to center stage, both mentally and physically, affirming and glorifying what people have traditionally shied away from. The circus in general was originally designed to give us the thrill of watching people perform death-defying acts in our presence, to bring us closer to the things we fear, and to give people and creatures that are incredibly unique a home admit.

People who were simply different were called “circus freaks”. Special souls born with unique gifts and attributes. He celebrated that. And gave them room to shine and fascinate. Clowns are incredibly talented artists and philosophers who, through physical humor or radical costumes, force us to see ourselves and take a closer look at human existence. Give us breaks from the danger of death-defying acts.

In the shows he created, the beautiful people of the circus world, people with incredible skills and talents and unique attributes from around the world were given a world that was as incredibly fantastic as they were meant to perform in. And this, in turn, blessed those who were, that this work is an opportunity to leave the cognitive mind behind and step into the world of our imagination, where everyone and everything belongs.

The Dancing With the Stars judge concluded by saying his shows inspired her personally [her] Vein.”

“Watching his shows made me feel right at home…he inspired my work with @madonna a lot,” Inaba wrote. “Thank you. I am truly grateful for your artistry and your contribution to this world.”

Dancing With the Stars airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. Eastern/5 p.m. Pacific Time on Disney Plus.
