Dancing With the Stars will look different next season. During the Monday, November 14 episode of the show, longtime judge Len Goodman shared that season 31 will be his last on the show.

“I’ve been with the show since it began in 2005 and it was such a pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful show, but I’ve decided to spend more time with my grandchildren and family in the UK,” Goodman shared during of the show before thanking the “Dancing With the Stars” family.

Val Chmerkovskiy would love to be a judge on Dancing With the Stars

In post-show interviews, professional dancers reacted to Goodman’s exit, and Val Chmerkovskiy shared that he wouldn’t mind being a judge on the show, he said Page Six and other outlets.

“It feels like a chapter close,” he shared. “I started to think, ‘Well, if that time went by so quickly for him, it went by so quickly for me too.’ That’s kind of the inevitable reality for all of us. So it really put me in a place of appreciation and gratitude.”

Chmerkovskiy added: “I would love to do that [be a judge on ‘Dancing With the Stars], I would. I want to be completely honest and I hope I don’t miss my future chance, but I still want to dance [right now]. I had the chance to judge Dancing With the Stars: Juniors and I loved the opportunity to talk to kids, inspire them and give feedback.”

He recognizes that judging the competition is a big responsibility.

“I don’t know if it’s any different if you judge adults, I’m sure, but I wasn’t quite in my groove,” he told the outlet. “I wanted to dance, I felt kind of uncomfortable being critical in such a vulnerable situation. Well, I don’t envy this job! I’m not in a hurry to get there yet.”

Professionals and judges paid tribute to Goodman on social media

Friends, fans and colleagues took to social media to pay tribute to Goodman.

“I want to say a big thank you to Len Goodman for being part of our #DWTS family for so many years!” the official site posted on Instagram. “I wish him all the best as we celebrate his final season before retirement.”

Cheryl Burke, who has openly supported taking a seat at the judges’ table, commented in Goodman’s honor.

“Thank you for representing us ballroom dancers and for personally inspiring me to always hold on to authentic ballroom dancing.” Burke wrote in the comments. “They were a big part of why ballroom dancing has continued to entertain millions of people at home who gather around their TV screens every week. Thank you for changing my life and bringing joy to millions of people who have watched us over the years. Love YOU Len!”

Britt Stewart told Page Six that she would like to see Burke sitting at the table.

“Cheryl definitely wants to be a judge and I think she would be a great addition,” Stewart shared. “I think that Derek [Hough] is proof that a former professional has become a judge. He really has the knowledge and experience of what it’s like to be in our shoes.”

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8pm ET/5pm PT on Disney+. The season finale is scheduled for Monday November 21, 2022.
