Dylan Alcott reveals the chilling reason his first job interview was canceled

Australian Paralympian Dylan Alcott has revealed that he was discriminated against because of his disability during his first job interview while at university.

The 31-year-old tennis star told Will and Woody on Thursday he was booked for an interview, which was immediately canceled when the recruitment board learned he used a wheelchair.

Dylan said he didn’t disclose that he was in a wheelchair when he applied for the job because “if I had I wouldn’t have gotten the interview.”

The Australian of the Year 2022 said he knew things were bleak when he showed up at the office to find the interview was upstairs.

The three-time Paralympic gold medalist said he asked staff if they could have it downstairs, and they replied: “We might as well just cancel it.”

Dylan said his experience “happens every day” to wheelchair users because the general public has “no expectations.”

“We need to change, not just at work, but also in dating and in life,” he added.

He has worked to encourage this change by partnering with Grant Burge Wines for his Leave Your Mark campaign, which provides college scholarships for people with disabilities.

Dylan and fellow sexologist Chantelle Otten made headlines earlier this year after a video surfaced of him controlling a vibrating sex toy inserted inside her while they were having dinner with friends.

The footage caused a stir on Twitter, with some critics saying his behavior was “unbecoming” for a role model who has been awarded one of his country’s top honors.

Others, however, found his antics either hilarious or harmless.

He told Body + Soul magazine last month that he’s proud of his relationship and doesn’t pay attention to the media hype.
