Eagle-Eyed Redditor Spots Nintendo Switch Online Functionality for Tears of the Kingdom

The truth is a little cloudy.

As the year draws to a close, avid Legend of Zelda fans have their eyes firmly on the horizon and the upcoming sequel to the adored Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom.

As usual, Nintendo has kept a low profile and left the investigative work to the fan base. A recent Reddit post by user Few_Working3350 has been getting quite a bit of traction lately, noting what may be a previously unannounced feature for Link’s adventures.

The post, published on the NintendoSwitch subreddit, highlights promotional material for Tears of the Kingdom that boldly promotes the functionality of Nintendo Switch Online. The ad, which is in Dutch, apparently means “get more out of your Nintendo Switch”.

The post has received almost 5,000 upvotes and over 350 comments at the time of publication, and the community is excited about what that could possibly mean.

Before we put images of multiplayer Zelda in your head – Four Swords Adventures is still readily available and deserves your attention, remember – we have to acknowledge the strong possibility that the actual online functionality will be somewhat unspectacular.

Widespread consensus is that online capabilities would be limited to cloud-based storage, a disappointing yet all too reasonable concession that brings more ambitious ideas back to earth.

While this isn’t quite the bombshell some were hoping for, it’s no reason to be less excited for Tears of the Kingdom, which promises to be a stellar bookmark for the final years of the Nintendo Switch’s lucrative lifecycle.

As commenter Bobertus so aptly noted in the subreddit thread, “Makes sense. I heard a lot of the game takes place in the clouds.”
