Missing children are the key to the twisted story.
Emma Stone has reportedly been cast to star in Edgar Wright’s next thriller, The Chain. The film is an adaptation of Adrien McKinty’s award-winning 2019 thriller of the same name, with a dark and twisted story centered around the kidnapping of children.
According to the synopsis of her role provided by The Direct, Emma Stone is set to play Rachel, a divorcee battling cancer who receives a mysterious phone call telling her that her 12-year-old daughter, Kylie, has been kidnapped. In order to bring Kylie back safely, Rachel must kidnap another child. Only when the parents of the kid Rachel kidnapped manage to kidnap a kid of their own will Kylie be released, completing a sick game called The Chain. However, if the abducted child’s parents do not follow the instructions, the earlier child in question will be killed.
While the project was first announced two and a half years ago, there is currently no confirmation of an official release date. Emma Stone also has other significant projects to complete, such as the Disney’s Cruella sequel, which was due to start filming in 2023.
It’s safe to assume that production on The Chain could potentially start this year if they can fit it in before Cruella, or later in 2024 if it has to follow. That means the film’s release could be anywhere between 2024 and 2025, depending on the development schedule and progress, if all goes according to plan.
