The slow burning life of Elementary continues. The film landed the best streaming debut of a film on Disney+ so far this year, the streaming service announced Monday. That follows ElementaryThe run of box office success began inauspiciously with the worst opening on record for a Pixar film, only for the film to have strong legs and eventually gross $484 million worldwide.
According to Disney, Elementary had 26.4 million views worldwide in its first five days of streaming – or in other words: the viewing time equivalent to so many complete screenings of the film. Like its competitor Netflix, Disney+ divides the total viewing time by the running time of a title. For comparison, Disney teased the live-action last week The little mermaid landed on the service with 16 million views in the first five days. The recent Episode 1 debut of war of stars series Ahsoka grossed 14 million in five days. The company did not disclose any data on this To reddenbut said Elementary offers the best opening to an animated film since this film, which debuted directly on Disney+ in March 2022.
Elementary comes from director Peter Sohn and takes place in Elemental City, a place inhabited by fire, water, earth and air creatures. Leah Lewis voices the role of Ember, while Mamoudou Athie voices Wade. The cast also includes Ronnie del Carmen, Shila Ommi, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Catherine O’Hara, Mason Wertheimer and Joe Pera.
Elementary was a much-needed victory for Disney and Pixar, who were suffering failure light year last year, and observers wondered whether pandemic-era policies sending animated titles directly to Disney+ would dampen box office potential.
