Erika Jayne has been criticized for a comment she made about a former housewife.

Erika Jayne made a comment during a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live that unsettled many fans. The ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ star made a comment about Bethenny Frankel’s ex Dennis Shields, who died in 2018.

While chatting with Andy Cohen, Erika was asked about Frankel’s comments. “She’d said, ‘I heard Tom actually owes people money and all that stuff,'” Cohen said, admitting he just “turned it down” at the time.

In 2021, Frankel revealed that Tom Girardi owed Shields around $500,000. according to page six.

“In Tom’s contingency fee business, it’s not uncommon to take out loans… there have also been loans that have really paid off. I don’t know where Bethenny is from and her guy is dead and my guy is in a home so whatever. But at the same time, that’s how business works,” Erika replied to Cohen’s comment.

The line about Frankel’s ex-boyfriend being “dead” didn’t sit well with fans, who took to Reddit to react and discuss.

RHOBH fans criticized Erika for her comment

Shortly after Erika commented on Shields on WWHL, a thread was started on Reddit with fans reacting to the RHOBH star’s comments.

It was just… not a respectful way of saying it, and it felt humiliating on both sides. I lost a partner at a young age and I also had family members who had to be placed in institutions who later also died. It just didn’t feel right to me. I’m all for making situations easy and cracking jokes when things are hard to deal with, but Erika speaks with such harshness and disregard for others. I just do not understand”, wrote one Redditorstarts the new thread.

“Yikes! Just when you think it can’t get any worse, it ups the ante! I’m really ashamed that I always banned them.” someone else added.

“I think Erika’s true feelings for other people around her sometimes escape her mouth by accident. She shows little to no compassion for others, except when it serves her own purposes.” read a third comment.

“I missed that part of wwhl and now that completely seals it – I hate Erika. I lost the love of my life the same way Dennis passed away this June almost 6 years ago. god she sucks” said a fourth person.

Frankel said Erika’s comments “hurt” Shield’s children.

Though Frankel could have lashed out at Erika, she preferred to only marginally confront the comment. The former Real Housewives of New York star appeared on Watch What Happens Live days after Erika’s performance, but the show was pre-taped so Frankel didn’t respond to Erika’s comments.

However, Frankel said Erika’s comments hurt the Shields family.

“Tonight’s episode of @BravoWWHL was taped so I’m not going to address the comment that you and Dennis’ kids are hurt, offended and disgusted by. I appreciate your loyalty, your heart and your compassion.” Frankel tweeted on May 19, 2022.

The Skinny Girl founder shared a TikTok further discussing Erika’s comment, calling it “cavalier,” “feeling” and “cold.”

“Here is my answer. The truth is that I left the housewives. By choice. I’ve gone twice and this time it’s permanent. And I left for that reason. I don’t want to be in that atmosphere with that unnecessary toxicity,” Bethenny said.

She went on to say that she and Erika aren’t related, so she just doesn’t think much of the comment she made. “I just don’t worry that much,” she said.
