Jaylen Brown, Boston Celtics

Despite Jaylen Brown’s recent ascent in form, Boston Celtics constantly find themselves linked to deals that could cost them their All-Star wings.

So you wouldn’t be surprised to learn that another commercial proposition has been mooted recently, linking Brown with a move away from Boston and, of course, providing the Celtics with a new All-Star to pair with Jayson. Tatum.

This latest commercial idea is the brainchild of ESPN’S Bobby Marksand it sees Philadelphia 76er The disgruntled point guard heads to Boston with an important card, “Simmons and Matisse Thybulle to Boston for Jaylen Brown and Juancho Hernangomez.”

Okay, that’s another Ben Simmons deal, and now you’ve got a full set of these. Going beyond that, however, Matisse Thybulle will be an exceptional addition to the Celtics bench rotation. When combined with Marcus Smart, they will form one of the most versatile defenses in the NBA.

The only downside to potentially adding Thybulle to the list, along with Simmons, is that neither of them have players known for their long-range shooting abilities. The Washington-born guard was a career three-pointer 32.3%, and according to Basketball reference, he’s only hit 29.3% of his tackles this season.

Ben Simmons is holding the company in his desire to leave Philadelphia

“The best option for the 76ers is for Simmons to stay on the roster and get back on the field before the deadline passes, but that’s unlikely.” Marks wrote.

What a difference every day. Although Simmons returning to the field is the clear best option for the Sixers, the All-Star guard is rumored to reiterate his pledge not to play for the team again at the recent meeting, each Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Simmons’ decision to sit out the season until the transaction is complete has hit his stock hard in the league. Combine that with Daryl Morey’s asking price of All-Star in return, and the story looks set to continue for a while.

While the Celtics are in dire need of a ball-playing and skilled player, it’s unlikely they’ll be ready to move from Brown to create favorable conditions for Simmons, at least not at the moment.

Brown is hitting his feet

When Tatum missed several games due to COVID in late December, Brown found himself in deep water and placed in a “sink or swim” situation. Unfortunately, during Tatum’s absence, Brown sank, and the Celtics sank on a losing streak as a result.

Fans and analysts were both quick to denounce Brown’s struggle as a reason why the Celtics should consider trading him or looking to add a legit ballplayer to the rotation.

After Brown’s decline, however, he returned as a possession man, averaging 29.5 points, 4.3 assists and 8.8 rebounds in the first four games of 2022. The Georgia-born player can continue that level of production, it will be interesting to see Boston move away from him in a deal for Simmons, notable as they are likely consolidating a direct conference opponent. (go both ways.)

It will be interesting to see how Brown continues to grow through the rest of the season as both the focal point of offense and a secondary player alongside Tatum. We’ll get another look at the powerful Celtics on January 12, when they take on the Indiana Pacers.
