Based on UOL, Everton are interested in signing Vasco da Gama wonderkid Andrey Santos, but face competition from Barcelona.
What is the story?
Well, Everton are set to appoint Frank Lampard as Rafa Benitez’s replacement, and the transfer gears are currently in disarray.
The Daily mail believe the Toffees want to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea before Monday’s deadline.
Besides, The Athletic are claiming that Everton also want Donny van de Beek on loan from Manchester United.
Now, it looks like Everton are also leaving the Premier League in search of potential signings, as a target emerges from Brazil.
UOL claims that Santos has a €30m (£25m) release clause in his contract with Vasco da Gama.
However, a deal can be done for just €6m (£5m) with his contract expiring in June 2023.
If Everton successfully fend off Barcelona, don’t expect to see Santos arriving at Goodison Park right away.
It will have to be a pre-contract agreement for now, as the 17-year-old cannot sign professional terms until he is 18.
Everton vs Barcelona is a good sign
Regardless of whether Everton successfully beat Barcelona to the Brazilian’s signature, this is a positive step.
For too long, the Toffees have been happily looking for signings, rather than venturing into Europe in search of value.
The likes of Yannick Bolasie, Alex Iwobi and Gylfi Sigurdsson suggest there is a lack of smart scouts going on at Goodison Park.
However, the addition of the smart Demarai Gray from Bayer Leverkusen is a wise move, so it’s good to know that Everton are currently scouring Brazil for more talent.
If they want to get out of the current mess, Everton must have more permanent additions like Santos, instead of aging players.
