Everything you need to know about MW3 Zombies
Modern Warfare 3 is an ambitious undertaking for what is described as an overly glorified DLC for 2022’s Modern Warfare 2. It features a unique campaign, extensive multiplayer offerings and a brand new Zombies mode set on the largest map ever – an environment that will also lend itself to Warzone later on. Luckily, the overall size and scope of MW3 Zombies doesn’t have to be daunting, as Activision has released a monumental breakdown of all the important information about the new mode.
However, there’s a lot to take care of before embarking on a round of MW3 Zombies. From brand new mechanics to new ways to play, and from hot completion camouflages to mods and perk-a-colas, this is truly a complete Zombies experience. For a while, fans feared it would be a little loose around the edges and roughly finished, but make no mistake – MW3 Zombies is here to impress gamers everywhere.

First of all, it’s worth noting that the official name is “Operation Deadbolt” and it is an open-world squad-based player-versus-environment epic based on an extraction shooter model like DMZ. In MW3 Zombies, players are tasked with loading up, landing in Urzikstan, completing tasks and eradicating the nightmares of the undead, and then successfully freeing themselves from the map. It’s like nothing we’ve seen before in the world of COD Zombies.
It is similar to DMZ in that players can assemble loadouts that are a mix of contraband and player-owned weapons. This also includes selecting operators and using items that carry from game to game, including perks, power-ups, field upgrades, bags and other equipment.
With that in mind, there are unique field upgrades for MW3 zombies that are unlocked as you level up:
- Energy mine
- Raging guard
- Healing aura
- Frostblast
- Aether Veil
- Tesla Storm
Two brand new items are “Acquisitions” and “Blueprints” that players can pick up while looting through COD Zombies. These allow players to craft special items that improve Pack-a-Punched weapons and make them more powerful – Aetherium and Aether Tools.

COD Zombies on MW3 returns a series of “Perk-a-Colas” first introduced in Call of Duty: Black Ops in 2010. This game features a unique mode that is often considered the best COD Zombies game of all time. Here is the full list of Perk-a-Colas in MW3 Zombies:

- Elementary pop
- Jugger Nog
- PHD floppers
- Quick revival
- Speed Cola
- Stamin Up
- Tombstone soda
There are also a number of ammunition modifications that also existed in COD Zombies. These grant you a number of elemental upgrades as you slay the undead in Urzikstan.
Ultimately, with all these features applied, the main goal is to complete tasks, missions, “stages” and “acts” as you explore Urzikstan in the zombie apocalypse. It’s a completely open world and you can go wherever you want, whenever you want. The world is divided into regions that differ in their intensity and threat level. So if you’re brave, head to the high threat zones.
It’s about getting in, doing everything you can while you’re there, then successfully leaving and trying not to get bitten.
