Hamilton was buried on a crowded depth chart

Hamilton was drafted by the Broncos in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL draft.

At Penn State, he was an efficient gambling collector. As a senior, Hamilton scored 53 hits for 857 yards and nine touchdowns.

Hamilton’s leadership is also considered a strength. An unnamed AFC scout told NFL Network’s Lance Zierlien the following:

“In this job, you have to deal with some really good people and some not so good people. He is one of the best. I think he’s not improving, but I also think football will be a very small part of what he achieves in his life.”

Unfortunately, Hamilton never emerged as a consistent player for the Broncos. As a rookie, Hamilton hit 30 of his 45 goals with 243 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned three throws for 31 yards.

Hamilton took on a slightly larger role in his second season, as he made 653 top-flight strikes of his career. However, Hamilton’s stats are still at a similar level; he had 28 tackles for 298 yards and one touchdown.

In 2020, Hamilton and full-back Drew Lock have struggled to get on the same page. Hamilton caught only 23 of his 44 goals. Additionally, the Broncos’ quarterback made three interceptions and scored an intercept of 60.1 when targeting Hamilton.

Hamilton suffered a torn ACL last season, and he missed the entire 2021 season. Before the injury, Hamilton was transferred to the San Francisco 49ers, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Broncos officially debuted him on March 8.

The Broncos have an extensive receiver depth chart at the moment. With Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Tim Patrick and KJ Hamler firmly ahead of Hamilton on the depth charts, he will likely play a minimal role, should he return.

Hamilton is in a better position to succeed in Houston

Hamilton should have the opportunity to play an important role in Houston. The Texans needed some more depth in the wide receiver position. After veteran Brandin Cooks and Nico Collins picked in the third round of 2021, their depth chart is widening.

The Texans relied heavily on Cook last season. In 16 games, he was targeted a total of 134 times.

Cooks thrived in his expanded role; he’s had the top 90 receptions of his career. His efficiency also improved. The Cooks also posted career-high points in yards after catches (357) and missed tackles (five).

Collins showed some signs of promise as a rookie. He has a total of 446 ball receptions, ranking seventh among rookie wide ball receivers.

Collins has all the physical tools to be a vast receiver. He stood at 6’4″ and he ran a 4.43-second 40-yard run at his Pro Day.

Cooks and Collins are widely regarded as Texas’ top two wide-field recorders, but the path is clear for Hamilton to become third choice. Aside from the Cooks and Collins, no Texas wide receiver hit 40 goals last season.

Hopefully, the former Bronco can make the most of his opportunity.
