Explosion destroys house in Kingstanding, Birmingham, several victims feared

Emergency services are at the scene of a house in Birmingham that was completely destroyed in an explosion on Sunday night, damaging several others.

West Midlands Police said there had been reports of casualties but the number and “severity” of injuries was not known at this time.

The blast was said to have been heard from as much as half a mile away and several vehicles were also damaged in the area.

A house in Dulwich Road, Kingstanding, was completely destroyed and there was significant damage to others and cars on the road.

West Midlands Police were called to the scene at 8.38pm and have reported victims, but the “number and severity of their injuries is unknown at this time”.

The emergency services have asked the public to stay away at this time to allow them to work after large crowds gathered around the police cordon following news of the spread of the blast.

The West Midlands Ambulance Service has said rescue workers are still working at the scene of the blast as of 11pm.

The West Midlands Ambulance Service also said they dispatched three ambulances, five paramedics, a MERIT trauma doctor, an intensive care nurse, a West Midlands care team, a Hazardous Area Response Team and a national interagency liaison officer to the scene.

The West Midlands Fire Service has dispatched six firefighting crews to the incident and warned people to “avoid the area at this time”.
