Some fans want a former “Dancing With the Stars” pro to return to the show as a judge.

Len Goodman served as a judge on “Dancing With the Stars” for most seasons of the show, but he announced on Monday, November 14, 2022 that he would be retiring after season 31. Now some fans are hoping the spot can be left to be occupied by former “Dancing With the Stars” pro dancer Maks Chmerkovskiy.

“I have been with the show since it began in 2005 and it has been a great pleasure to be part of such a wonderful show, but I have decided to spend more time with my grandchildren and family in the UK. Goodman told fans during the episode, before thanking the Dancing With the Stars family for the “wonderful experience.”

When the official Dancing With the Stars Instagram page shared a tribute to Goodman, fans quickly jumped in and gave their opinions on who should be on the judging panel next season.

Fans want Maks Chmerkovskiy to replace Goodman

Dancing With the Stars paid tribute to Goodman with an Instagram post announcing his exit, and fans responded in the comments.

Goodman is known as the most technically specific judge, often calling out dances for not having enough content for certain types of dance and staying true to his roots as a ballroom dancer and judge. Some fans think whoever replaces him should be the same kind of judge.

“PLEASE BRING MAKS BACK AS JUDGE!!!! He’s the only one who’s going to keep “technology” in check!!!!” wrote one person on Instagram.

Another person commented, “Bring Maks for the new judge…I could see he was really honest and entertaining.”

Chmerkovskiy has experience judging dance competitions. In early 2022, he was a judge on Dancing With the Stars in Ukraine before it was shut down due to the war.

Some fans think so too this Cheryl Burke should be brought back to the show as a judge.

Chmerkovskiy has said in the past that he would love to be a presenter on the show, but he would also be open to judgment, he said Us Weekly in 2021.

“I would love to host,” Maks told Us Weekly. “I would fill all the shoes on this show. I wish I had that understanding when I first came to the show, we had a different process because I honestly didn’t have any examples of that in front of me to say, ‘Oh, that’s how it is.’ ”

He added, “Personally, I would love the opportunity to follow in any footsteps on the production side or in front of the camera. I don’t necessarily have the passion to guide anyone through this incredibly grueling three-month process to the end. I may not have, but I have a passion to contribute to dance, to be on TV and to stay with it.”

Val Chmerkovskiy would like to take over for Goodman

In post-show interviews, professional dancers reacted to Goodman’s exit, and Val Chmerkovskiy shared that he wouldn’t mind being a judge on the show, he said Page Six and other outlets.

“It feels like a chapter close,” he shared. “I started to think, ‘Well, if that time went by so quickly for him, it went by so quickly for me too.’ That’s kind of the inevitable reality for all of us. So it really put me in a place of appreciation and gratitude.”

Val added: “I’d love to do that [be a judge on ‘Dancing With the Stars], I would. I want to be completely honest and I hope I don’t miss my future chance, but I still want to dance [right now]. I had the chance to judge Dancing With the Stars: Juniors and I loved the opportunity to talk to kids, inspire them and give feedback.”

He recognizes that judging the competition is a big responsibility.

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Disney+.
