A friend called 911 on Jan. 15 to have police do a welfare check after being alerted by a text message from Standifer, The Sun wrote.

“In the message, she said her husband smashed her cell phone and put a knife in her back. I called to see if I could get a welfare check for her,” the friend told the dispatcher, according to The Sun. “When I spoke to her on the phone I could hear him screaming in the background and then she hung up real quick and said she had to go.”

Standifer’s father called 911 on Jan. 24 after his daughter called him to pick her up and said she was “upset” and things were “escalating” at home, according to The Sun.

“I do not know what’s going on. If he doesn’t let her out of the house or something. I thought I might walk into something I don’t have to walk into since he won’t let her out and he and I get into an argument,” Bob Standifer said, according to The Sun. “I don’t want to be on the wrong side of the law, so I thought I’d let you all know.”

Bob Standifer told the dispatcher Edwards had a “quite a lot” of guns at the house, including “assault rifles, two .45s, Army-issued pistols,” according to The Sun.

When asked if Edwards had substance abuse issues, Bob Standifer said, as reported by The Sun, “I know he’s been through rehab before. Two years ago. I don’t know if that’s the case now. It’s something he went through a few years ago.”
