Kira Mengistu’s joke sparked a controversial tweet from Amabile

As Kira Mengistu, from Clayton Echards Season 1 of “The Bachelor” arriving on the beach in “Bachelor in Paradise” viewers learned that there was built-in drama. Mengistu had spent quite a bit of intimate time off-screen with Romeo Alexander, and he had also spent time with Jill Chen. Chen was also in Echard’s season and both women were still interested in Alexander when Bachelor in Paradise started. As ET Online detailed, as the drama gathered momentum, viewers watched as Mengistu joked about how “in another life I would have been a porn star.” It seems this was the line that prompted Amabile tweet where he wrote, “At least we know that Kira is only in it for fans and not Instagram followers.”

In her day-to-day life, Mengistu is a doctor of internal medicine, notes her LinkedIn page. She attended Harvard University for her bachelor’s degree and received her doctorate in medicine from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. The Bachelor in Paradise star also received a Masters of Business Administration from the Wharton School and worked at the Cambridge Health Alliance and later Penn Medicine. She has shown her cheeky side on both The Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise, but many viewers were quick to snap her back after Amabile’s critical tweet.

The reaction to Amabile’s joke was immediate and intense

Shortly after Amabile joked about Mengistu’s alleged pursuit of an OnlyFans, Twitter users clapped back.

“Delete this tweet. They call an accomplished woman who works as a doctor a sex worker. Take that down and apologize for your poor attempt at a joke.” fired a critic.

“Yawn. Boring. Deeply unsympathetic. Make better jokes,” tweeted someone else.

“Don’t you sell sauce for a living? She’s a doctor.” pointed out another show fan.

“So edgy and controversial!!! You are a sexist old man xoxo.” joked another poster.

Amabile received supportive responses from some Bachelor in Paradise fans, although detractors outnumbered supporters on Twitter. A few people tagged his fiancee Serena Pitt, suggest she “come get your husband please.” The Clapbacks didn’t just pop up on Twitter. More than 600 people gave their opinion a thread on Redditand the reaction to Amabile’s tweet was a bit mixed there.

“I find Joe as obnoxious as most, but I have a feeling he was just live-tweeting/commenting on her ridiculous statement.” recommended a person.

“Taken out of context, it’s awful … In context, it’s just a lame joke in response to what she said about herself.” added another Redditor.

“As if he wasn’t the first to subscribe to Mengistu’s OnlyFans if she made one,” counters someone else.

“Kira’s OF would have more flavor than Joe’s sauce.” joked someone else.

Amabile’s tweet is still being posted, and it doesn’t appear he has returned to comment further on it. Fans have a huge reaction to a fan-favorite Bachelor in Paradise star’s “joke.”
