Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham said she was “blessed” after healing her “trauma.”
Former “Teen Mom” star Farrah Abraham said she was having one of the “best days” of her life and was able to recover from the death of her boyfriend Derek Underwood. Underwood died in a car accident in 2008, a month before the birth of his 13-year-old daughter, Sophia. He was 18 years old.
Though Abraham has moved away from Council Bluffs, Iowa, she returns to her home state to visit Underwood’s grave and reconnect with Sophia’s paternal family. She posted a video of herself in the cemetery with Underwood’s father, Sophia, and two of their dogs. They brought red Underwood roses and smiled in the photos.
Abraham, 31, said she was able to live in peace 14 years after Underwood’s death.
“I never thought this day would come after one of the best days of my life.” She wrote on Instagram. “After 14 years of not coming to terms with a traumatic loss, I wanted to share my heart healing.”
Abraham said she’s shared her loss publicly “on TV, online and in my book,” but she doesn’t know “how to heal from it.” “I felt responsible,” she said.
But she’s in a different place now, at 31, from when the car accident happened, and she was 17. Abraham said there’s a “very big difference over 14 years of loss.”
“I’ve finally gotten the peace, healing, and alignment I’ve always dreamed of,” she wrote.
Underwood’s untimely death was mentioned in Abraham’s 2009 episode of “16 and Pregnant.”
Abraham said that through the 12 step program she was able to heal
The former “Teen Mom” star was able to find peace through the 12-step program and found step five to be particularly helpful.
Abraham called it “eye-opening in processing relationships” and was able to stop doubting himself and trying to achieve perfection.
“I connected to the old lies I agreed to over a decade ago, and now I’ve become ‘unified’ with my current truth,” she said.

Abraham thinks everyone should do the 12-step program
Halfway through her post, Abraham said she wished Underwood could have walked her through the 12-step program. She also believes minors could benefit.
“I think all children should be taught the 12-step trauma healing process, despite all the trauma our world offers,” she wrote.
Abraham had been dealing with anxiety and chronic depression for “far too long.”
“It’s healed — it’s over,” she said. “Being present and spiritually elevated from all that I have been blessed with is what I rise to with all sheer joy in this lush year of 2023.”
“I am sharing this because I wish I had known how to heal myself 14 years ago so I am sharing this blessing with so many who have traumatically lost a loved one as I do not want trauma to be inflicted on you haunted the rest of your life (it was exhausting),” she added.
Abraham ended her post by wishing her followers a Happy New Year.
