FBI agents seize nearly 20 boxes of classified documents from Donald Trump’s home – he says evidence has been ‘planted’

CNN reports that authorities found classified documents in Donald Trump’s home when they served a search warrant earlier this week.

In the unsealed search warrant, the FBI found “11 sets of classified documents from its search of Mar-a-Lago” at the home. Federal agents also found “top secret/SCI” documents, the highest level of classification.

Secret documents from Donald Trump’s house

The Washington Post reports that Trump had the FBI take about 20 boxes from his home, “including folders of photos, information about the President of France and a variety of classified information.

Documents classified as “sensitive restricted information/secret” and “confidential” were also confiscated from his home.

People close to the situation also told the outlet that authorities were looking for information about nuclear weapons, among other things.

Some of what has been in Trump’s possession is amazing,” said Javed Ali, a senior National Security Council official during the Trump administration. “Whenever you leave government — including probably a former president — you can’t just take them with you.”

Trump comments on documents found during the search

Trump declared the nuclear weapons situation was a “hoax” and agents were “filing evidence.” Trump also expressed all of this
“everything was cleared” and that the authorities “did not have to ‘seize’ anything”.

That search warrant signed by a federal judge, directed agents to “search storage rooms and any other room or area within the premises used or available to them [the former president] and his staff and in which boxes or documents could be kept, including any structure or building on the estate.”

The warrant also said authorities are searching for “physical documents and records constituting evidence, contraband, fruits of crime, or other items illegally possessed in violation of three potential felonies,” including the loss or transmission of information and the Espionage Act, which prohibits collecting.
