Fernande’s claim must have Leeds on high alert over the Manchester United star

Leeds are reportedly keen to ambush bitter rivals Manchester United for midfielder James Garner as he remains on loan at Nottingham Forest – and Bruno Fernandes’ ruling must put Leeds on high alert.
Garner, 21, joined Forest on loan in January 2021 and has spent the last 18 months at the club – in that time making 56 appearances across all competitions. He was a rock in midfield and was even involved in 13 goals.
Such a shape caught the attention of Leeds. Phil Hay confirmed on The Athletic that Garner – who has since won two England Under-21 caps – has been mentioned at transfer meetings at Elland Road. He has a contract until 2024.
Fernandes, the Old Trafford favorite, held a question-and-answer session on his Twitter page after signing a new contract with Manchester United. He was asked which player excites him from United academy – and he chose Garner.
Fernandes on Garner: Lots of excitement around Leeds goal
Ask most Nottingham Forest fans and they’ll tell you they’re dying to re-sign him this summer. But the only chance for that seems to be if Forest manages a shock play-off promotion.

But Fernandes’ verdict is exciting. United have plenty of academy stars, lots of players with great potential. So, Fernandes choosing Garner is a real statement in terms of the midfielder.
Leeds are in dire need of a midfielder. They tried to get Brenden Aaronson in January and are expected to return in the summer. But Garner’s signing isn’t just important to fill a gap – it’s also going forward.
Adam Forshaw, Mateusz Klich and Stuart Dallas are all in their thirties. Leeds need to freshen things up and they just can’t pass up a player who’s a decade younger and has huge potential.
Bruno’s claim must put Leeds on red alert and sign Garner.
