FFVII Rebirth ends in the forgotten capital of the City of the Ancients

FFVII Rebirth Creative director Tetsuya Nomura revealed on the PlayStation Blog that the next entry will cover the game’s events, from the party leaving Midgar to the arrival in the forgotten capital of the ancient world. This means that the next cliffhanger of the latest installment of the series ends in one of the most remarkable moments of the series Final Fantasy VII Story. This is also when “Disc 1” ended on the PlayStation release. He also noted that the places people visit could sometimes be in a different order than in the original version.

Here is Nomura’s official statement revealing this FFVII Rebirth ends with the events in the Forgotten Capital.

We’ve mentioned this a few times already, but the order in which you can explore the locations isn’t the same as in the original Final Fantasy VII, and there are some shifts in the order. For example, Wutai, one of the main locations, is not part of the route in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and will be visited in the next one. Although there are some changes in the order of locations, the locations depicted in this title range all the way to the “Forgotten Capital,” where the greatest fate of Final Fantasy VII expects you.

Editor’s Note: There will be spoilers for the original Final Fantasy VII Forgotten Capital events below.

In the original storyline, the Forgotten Capital is where Sephiroth kills Aerith. This means that the recent retelling of the game’s events could lead to this FFVII Rebirth ends with a cliffhanger sometime before, during, or after that moment in the Forgotten Capital.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on February 29, 2024 for the PlayStation 5. There is a Collector’s Edition with additional items and a Sephiroth figure. The exclusivity period runs at least until May 29, 2024. FFVII remake is now available for PS4, PS5 and PC.
