Fighters Claimed ‘Best Chance’ to Defeat Israel Adesanya

Israel Adesanya

Israel Adesanya prepares to face Marvin Vettori in their UFC 263 middleweight title fight at Gila River Arena on June 12, 2021 in Glendale, Arizona.

Recently appeared on ESPN’s”DC & RC“Podcasts, top ratings UFC light heavyweight Anthony Smith has taken over as middleweight king Israel Adesanya.

“The Stylebender” is the most dominant middleweight champion fans have seen since Anderson Silva dominated the league. Last weekend, Adesanya scored a fourth consecutive title defense, defeating Robert Whittaker via unanimous decision at UFC 271.

Aside from the defeat to then-lightweight champion Jan Blachowicz as Adesanya attempted to win £205 gold, The Last Stylebender was undefeated in MMA.

Smith, who also works for ESPN as a combat analyst, believes there is one boxer in particular who has the “best chance” of beating Adesanya in middleweight.

And that’s the man who has done it twice in kickboxing, Alex Pereira. One of the victories the Brazilian holds against Adesanya is by KO.

Pereira is a 4-1 mixed martial artist and he made his UFC debut last year at UFC 268, finishing off Andreas Michailidis with blows.

Alex Pereira

But even if Smith thinks Pereira can dethrone The Last Stylebender, he knows it will be a difficult task.

“I think that guy has probably the best chance, and this would be a crazy statement, he’s in the UFC but he’s not ranked,” Smith said via “I think it was Alex Pereira. This child is good. The problem with Alex is that he will have a hard time getting to Israel. There are a lot of high level wrestlers, some good jiu-jitsu guys, I think his hardest path is to get to him. I don’t put too much weight on the fact that he took down Israel in another organization and in a different sport. He is someone who can fight Israel in the same match. He plays the same game, fights are very similar, he is very relaxed. He will keep the fight slow but explosive when he has to.

“He has the power and ability to start, which is really big when it comes to Israel Adesanya. That is why Jan Blachowicz is so successful”.
