Football-mad boy, 15, collapses and dies of heart failure while playing at Edinburgh school

A soccer-loving student collapsed and died of heart failure while playing the game at school.
Andrew MacKinnon, 15, was playing football when he became unwell on the pitch at the school in Edinburgh on Tuesday afternoon.
After the incident at Forrester High School, emergency services rushed to the Broomhouse Road area of Edinburgh Despite extensive efforts, paramedics were unable to save Andrew.
Police and ambulances were sighted in the area just after 3pm on Tuesday afternoon, March 13.
The gifted footballer and huge Hearts fan, who played for Salvesen Blues 07s, is survived by sisters Aimee and Rachel, 20 and 17, mother Janine Dow, 48, father also Andrew MacKinnon, 40, and stepfather Gary Weir, 55.

Andrew’s father said: “He was a really popular little boy and a huge Hearts fan. He had so many friends and just loved his friends, family and football.
“He really was such a lovely little boy and really loved his football. He died doing what he loved most and we are all heartbroken.
“We’ll be at Forrester’s at 4 p.m. to put his strip behind the gates and remember Andrew. Everyone is welcome to come.’
Big sister Aimee said: “Andrew was a very beloved son, brother, nephew and grandson. He was such a little warrior who never gave up and will be missed forever.
“His memory will stay with us forever. We love you millions little man shine bright angel sleep tight beautiful boy you are so loved.’
A close family friend, Megan, wrote: “He was a lovely, caring boy and adored his family.
“A few years ago Andrew underwent massive surgery – he was the strongest boy and faced life with the biggest smile on his face.”

Dismayed members of the public were invited to a local church on Tuesday night for a time of reflection following the tragedy.
A brief contribution from St David’s Broomhouse Parish Church read: “Following the difficult circumstances of today, the church will be open tonight from 8pm to 9pm (8pm to 9pm) for quiet reflection and the lighting of a candle. All are welcome. ‘
A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed the death, adding: “On Tuesday March 14, police were called to a report of a 15-year-old boy who had collapsed on Broomhouse Road. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be submitted to the Financial Prosecutor’s Office.’
