The National Highway Safety Administration says it has six property damage reports and four injury reports that may be related to the problem.
Among the issues, on the affected Ford cars and SUVs, the transmission may not be in park even though the shift lever position indicates that the vehicle has been shifted into park. According to the safety agency, drivers have gotten out of a vehicle just to let it roll, increasing the risk of injury or an accident.
A similar problem with the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee caused the death of actor Anton Yelchin in 2016. Yelchin’s Jeep rolled down his driveway and pinned him to a brick post in front of his Los Angeles home. Fortunately, NHTSA has not reported any fatalities caused by this Ford recall issue.
The vehicles involved are Escape 2013-2019 model years, C-Max 2013-2018, Fusion 2013-2016 and Transit Connect 2013-2021.
