Former Broncos QB Selected in Round 1 of USFL Draft

The United States Football League (USFL) officially began the draft on February 22. The league consists of eight teams: Michigan Panthers, Tampa Bay Bandits, Philadelphia Stars, New Jersey Generals, Houston Gamblers, Birmingham Stallions, Pittsburgh Maulers and New Orleans Circuit Breakers.

In the first round, the Breakers picked quarterback Kyle Sloter with an eighth overall pick. Sloter played briefly for Dancer broncos.

Kyle Sloter has been a stellar pre-season performer

The Broncos signed Sloter as an untrained free agent in 2017. He has excelled in pre-season. completed 31 of 43 passes for 413 yards and three touchdowns.

In the end, Sloter did not make a list of 53, and he was released. The Minnesota Vikings signed him to their practice team. Sloter remains in Minnesota until 2019.

Then he goes around the tournament spending time with The Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lion, Chicago Bears, Las Vegas Raidersand the Vikings (again).

Sloter has been an impressive pre-season performer throughout his NFL career; he has a total 1,222 yards, 11 touches and just one intercept.

At 6’4″, the Sloter is also a great size for a quarterback.

In the USFL, he will finally get a chance to prove he can be a starting quarterback.

Sloter is not the only former Broncos player. Fullback Ahmad Gooden drafted by the Houston Gamblers.

Gooden was signed by the Broncos as an untrained free agent in 2019. He appeared in three regular season games scoring one tackle and one midfield strike.

Gooden played college football at Samford University, where he lived Named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year 2017.


USFL Draft Summary to date

Draft USFL is being worked on by placement teams. In the first round, each team chose a midfielder. In the second round, each team was given the choice of a final offensive or defensive player.

The Panthers held the first overall pick in the draft and picked quarterback Shea Patterson. Patterson played for the University of Michigan for two seasons (2018 and 2019). He was not selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, and he was briefly involved with Chief of Kansas City in training camp.

Other notable quarterbacks selected include Jordan Ta’amu and Kyle Lauletta. Ta’amu is the starting midfielder for St. Louis Battlehawks in the XFL. Last season, he spent time training for the Washington Soccer Team and the Carolina Panthers.

Lauletta was chosen by Giants in New York in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL draft. He was dropped by The Giant after just one season.

The first defensive player to fly out of the table was outside full-back Davin Bellamy, who was selected by the Breakers. Bellamy played for the University of Georgia for four Seasons.

Meanwhile, the Bandits have selected their first full-back, Delrick Abrams Jr.

Abrams played at Independent Community College and was featured on the Netflix series Last Chance U.

Abrams appeared in three games for Atlanta Falcons in 2020. He only played a total of seven defences.
