Former cop Gregory Campbell sentenced after crashing into home in Northeast Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – A former Philadelphia police officer could spend nearly two years in prison for driving under the influence and crashing a vehicle that left two people injured.

Gregory Campbell on Monday was sentenced to 11 and a half to 23 months in prison with a suspended sentence.

In April, Campbell pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a vehicle while driving under the influence.

Campbell’s car flew through the air and crashed into a house on Comly Street in Northeast Philadelphia in February 2021.

That collision destroyed the house and left the owner trapped under the car. Two of their dogs were killed.

For the first time, the victims described what happened that night.

“Everything there was gone. I got up and looked in my son’s room, thank God he wasn’t there, he must be dead,” victim Raymond Wakeman said.

Campbell, who had been on the force for two years, was fired nearly a month after the crash.
